It all happened so fast, one minute I was seventeen, and had just met him, the next I was eighteen and getting married. We hadn’t even known each other for a month before he asked me. I hadn’t expected to fall in love with anyone especially him, a pirate, I was arranged to be married to Cuttler Beckett but he saved me from that.
I was twenty one the day I turned fifteen, I lied about my age to work in a pub. After working there for about six months the owner told me I was in charge and left, that was the last I saw of him. I met Jack when I was seventeen. He came into the bar as he was passing through Port Royal.
“What can I get you sir?” I asked as he sat down.
“Aye, Rum!” he said without looking at me.
I didn’t think anything of it; he was just a regular customer. “Where are you from?” I asked as I handed him his rum.
“Here and there.” He answered as he picked up the mug and drank the rum. “Another!”
I smiled and got him another one, “Don’t drink this one too fast now.” I laughed, but that didn’t stop him, he picked up the mug and chugged it slamming the mug down with a smirk he asked for another.
“Aye, what be ye name?” he asked drinking this one more slowly.
I smiled, “Abagail Turner. And you may be?”
“Sparrow. Jack.” He finished his rum and yet again asked for another.
“You sure do like that rum don’t you?” I laughed.
He smiled, “Aye did you say Turner?”
He looked to be about 20 but I was afraid to ask him. I was a shy one until I became friends with him.
“I did, what it’s to you?”
“Aye, No reason, Have ye been out ta sea before?”
I gave him a ‘you’re kidding right?’ look, “Me?” I pointed a finger to my chest, “Yeah, right, with the family I was raised in?” I shook my head “No!”
“Your family’s against the pirate life?”
“They aren’t my family!” I said sternly. I saw the look on his face, I could tell he was sorry he asked, “I’m sorry, my family’s dead, it’s just me and my little brother. I live with the Swan family,”
“Aye, ye said the Swan family?” He was laughing so hard he fell off the stool.

| PAGE 2“What’s so funny about that?” I asked just as Becket t came walking in. “Ah, My lady,” he kissed me on the cheek, “how are we this fine day?” “Beckett.” I said looking down. “My lady, what is the matter?” he asked lifting my chin, “Where is that smile that I love?” I smile, “My lord.” I said sarcastically “That’s better!” He smiled noting the sarcasm “What can I get you?” “How about some rum?” he says looking at Jack. Jack and I didn’t talk while Beckett was there, he made sure of it. “I bought you a dress for supper tomorrow night.” “You shouldn’t have,” out of the corner of my eye I noticed Jack finished his rum and then got up, he smiled and winked and then walked out. Beckett grabbed my elbow just as I was to serve another customer “You going to tell me who that was, or do I have to force it out?” he said with an evil grin. I looked at him and then his hand on my elbow, then back to him, “I’m not sure, I’ve never seen him before.” I said yanking my elbow from his grasp. Beckett insisted on walking me home that night, he told me that he had things he wanted to discuss the next nights arrangements, “You have someone to cover for you at that filthy place I presume?” “It’s not filthy!” I hated when he talked about the bar like that. “I don’t see why you want to workanyway,” he said with disgust, “You have someone who is willing and wanting to take care of you!” “I want to work because I want to take care of myself, and not have someone like you take care of me!” I hadn’t realized that Beckett stopped walking until he grabbed my elbow, “Well, No matter what you want, I will be the one you marry!” He slapped me across the face before he grabbed my arm and pulled me closer, “You will not be going back to that filth after we’re married!” he then pushed my arm away and walked off. *** | |

“Miss. Abagail, wake up.” The chamber maid gently shook me awake, “Mrs. Abagail, He’s going to be here any minute!” She kept repeating.
“I’m up, I’m up!” I rolled over hoping she would go away.
“No Miss. Abagail, Mr. Swan said I cannot leave until you are up and out of bed.”
I didn’t want to see Beckett, especially after he hit me. “Go wake Elizabeth.” I groaned.
“Miss. Swan is already away!”
“Okay, I’m up, I’m up!” I repeated. I touch my hand to my cheek, it felt warm. I winced as I washed my face.
“Miss. Abagail what happened?”
“Please get out, I have to get ready. I will let you know when I need you.” I watched as she walked out before I put my hand to my face and gently felt, I couldn’t help but let the tears slide down. I hadn’t noticed any one come in until I felt the hand on my shoulder. “Please Beckett, I’m not….”
“What be the matter?” he asked wiping my cheek softly. I didn’t want him to stop so I held my hand on his.
Ignoring his question I stood up and asked, “How did you get in here?”
“Aye, I have my ways!” He smiles. “Ye guards not be doing their job!” All I could do was look into his eyes; they were the most beautiful chocolate brown. I could just get lost in them. He smiled and held out his hand, I grabbed it, as I did he pulled me in closer, “Come to sea with me!”
I looked at him, “But I can’t.” I wanted to know what was flowing through his head.
“Ye know, since last night, ye be all I think about.” he smiles, wrapping his arms around my waist and then acted as if it had just him, “Aye, why can’t ye come to sea with me?” I looked down; I didn’t want to tell him. He must have seen the look on my face because he lifted up my head and smiled, “It be that bloke Beckett?” I didn’t answer. He just backed away from me. “Aye, I think me get it now!” he hesitated, then said, “Ye be in love with that bloke?”
I couldn’t help but back away, “I think not sir!” I think at that moment he could tell I was getting mad, “How dare you make that accusation!”
“Then why won’t ye go to sea with me?” he said looking lost.
“If you must know I can’t leave my little brother behind!” I looked at him with sad eyes, “I would love to go to sea, but what about me…I mean my brother? I can’t just leave him here alone.”
“What about leaving him with the Swan family?”

| PAGE 4I couldn’t answer him because then the chamber maid came running in, “Miss.. Abigail, Lord Beckett is here to see you. Shall I let….” She stopped when she saw Jack. She smiled, “Shall I stall him?” “Aye, no need, I must be going!” he kissed me on the cheek that was red and sore, “I won’t stop until ye say yes!” “I can’t.” I said looking down. I wanted to go with him but I just couldn’t leave Will here alone. There came a slight knock, as Jack climbed out the window, “Miss. Lord Beckett is here already!” “Tell him I’ll be out in a minute, I still have to get dressed.” “Yes Miss.” She walked out without opening the door all the way; I heard whispers then footsteps. I heard the chattering of the guests all the way at the top of the stairs. As I walked down the steps the chattering got quieter, and the whispers started. Beckett was waiting at the end of the steps with a big smile. I rolled my eyes as I reached him, he held out his hand and greeted me, “My lady. You look absolutely stunning!” Ignoring his hand I said “I can’t breathe in this thing!” I tried to pull it lose. He smacked my hands “Knock it off.” He wrapped his arm around my waist, his grip got tighter every time I tried to walk away. “Will you stop fidgeting my lady?” I hate the parties we have, they last for ages. This one is to celebrate mine and Beckett’s engagement. I was only seventeen and hadn’t even lived my life, I wanted to travel, I wanted to sail the big ocean blue, but Beckett wouldn’t let me do any of that. He told me once we were married I would never have a reason to do those things. Beckett was proud he could force a young girl to marry him, “Ah, yes we are very happy to be getting married. She can’t stop talking about it. Children? Oh, No, no, we won’t have any children.” He would just go on and on and not let me say a word. The nights events lasted until around midnight, the same two question swept through the night, “Are you happy to be getting married? Are you thinking about having children?” I rolled my eyes every time; I wasn’t allowed to answer any question unless Beckett gave me Permeation. After listening to the same answers I finally smiled and asked Beckett if I could go to bed, “I have work in the morning.” Beckett smiled, only because we were in front of people, “Of course My Lady.” He leaned in and gave me a kiss on the cheek and whispered, “Once we are married say good bye to that filth!” then he turned around and started talking to the company. *** | |

The next morning I woke up early so I could get ready for work. I couldn’t help but think if Jack would come and see me again, I was kind of hoping he wouldn’t, but then again I wanted him to. That night the pub was busy, but no Jack.
Beckett ended up coming towards the end of my shift, “My lady.” He kissed my hand.
“Hello, Beckett.” I gave him a smile. I thought Jack said he wouldn’t stop asking me to go with him until I agreed, I knew I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up.
Cuttler smiled, “My lady, please call me Cuttler, we will be married soon after all.” He smiled.
“Yes Cuttler.” I smiled again. Jack finally came in, I tried so hard not to show my excitement, “Would you like a mug of rum again tonight sir?” He nodded and I poured him his drink. I could feel Cuttler’s eyes burning into my back.
Just as I walked back over to Cuttler and poured him another drink he grabbed my arm and yanked me in closer. “I thought you told me you didn’t know him Abigail!” he whispered harshly.
“My lord I do not know who that man is! He has been in the bar once before, but I promise you I do not know who he is!” I yanked my arm away from him, “And my lord, I would like if you not handle your bride that way!” I noticed Jack had been watching , his face grew red and I knew he was angry. He drank the last of his rum and walked out, Beckett followed behind him.
“Aye, what ye be following me for?” Jack asked as he stumbled to the side.
“What might your name be my fine sir?” Beckett asked.
“Aye, it be John, John Smith!”
Beckett laughed, “What is your business with my bride Mr. Smith?”
“Ye bride? Who would want to marry a bloke like ye?” Jack asked as he swayed from side to side.
Beckett gripped his gun at his side. “Well my dear boy, that young lady in there is the one who wants to marry me.”
Jack laughed, “Aye, the only reason she be marrying ye is to stay with her brother!”
Beckett laughed again, “She won’t be seeing her brother after we’re married.”
Jack just looked at him, he then noticed me come out of the pub, “Cuttler love, can we go home now.” Abigail smiled and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

“We may.” He smiled at Jack and grabbed my arm and turned. “Have a fine night Mr. Smith.”
“Aye.” Was all Jack managed to say. I turned and looked back at him, he just stood there until he couldn’t see us anymore.
“My lord, what did you say his name was?” I asked as I got a little closer to him.
Beckett stopped, “I should have known. You like that piece of scum don’t you!” he said with a slight grin. “For if you didn’t you would not be asking!”
“No my love! I was merely asking because I think he’s a pirate!” I stood in front of him with my arms crossed, “Beckett! If you expect me to marry you and be happy, you must trust me!”
I looked at his face, his eyes were full of blank emotion. It always seemed to me that he had no emotion and what happened next proved it. He moved in closer and whispered in a harsh tone, “You will marry me whether you like it or not! I am second most powerful man in England and I can make any one I damn well please marry me.”
I stood there stunned; I hadn’t expected him to act like that. I didn’t know he could be that emotionless. You would have thought because he wanted my hand in marriage that he had just an ounce of love for me. I slapped him across the face “How dare you! You expect me to marry you when you treat me like I am nothing more than a piece of dirt!” I stormed off and didn’t look back.
“Abigail! Get back here now! “ He stayed rooted to the spot he stood, doing nothing but screaming, “Abigail! I am not asking you I am demanding you, GET BACK HERE NOW!” I didn’t turn around, I just kept walking, but the last words I heard from his mouth as I turned the corner was, “Abigail I love you!”
I knew he was just trying to get me back but I didn’t know what to think. I thought for a moment that I could get past all of our flaws. I couldn’t believe I thought that for a second. I ended up walking home, but it took a little longer than I expected because I ran into Jack. “Aye, Ye be lost little girl?” I heard a voice. I wiped my tears, I hadn’t even realized I was crying until that moment, I smiled and turned around. “Aye, I be Mr. Smith, Who be ye?” He walked up to me and grabbed my hand, “Aye, come with me.” I followed. We walked to the docks without saying a word but it seemed as if we said a thousand words the whole way.
“Aye, that be me ship!” I looked at the big black ship, it was better than I had imagined. “It be called The Black Pearl.”
“Wow! This is your ship. You mean you are the captain of it?” I asked, “But you are only twenty!”
“Aye, I be almost twenty one.” He laughed.
I smiled, I looked at him and then the ship and then back at him with a big grin, “Can I see the whole thing?”
“Aye.” He nodded. “Barbossa!” he called.
An older gentlemen came walking off the ship. “Aye Cap’in?”

“Abby, meet me first mate Barbossa.” Did he just call me Abby? No one in their right mind had ever called me that. My father called me Abby or Abbz when I was little and when Will and I had come to live with the Swans, I hurt anyone who called me by those names, but for some reason, I didn’t mind him calling me that.
A women then walked of the boat, “Captain, when are we planning to set sail?” she looked me up and down and then rolled her eyes. “Is this another one of your whores Jack?
“Excuse me!” I backed away, “I am not whore!”
Jack laughed, “Aye, Enola, this be Abigail, Abigail Turner.” He had a smile that just melted my heart.
Enola looked me up and down again, “This…” She laughed, “This is the famous Boot Strap’s daughter?” she couldn’t help but laugh, she was bent over smacking her knees, “I…I…Can’t…I can’t breath!” she laughed. She cleared her throat, “Please forgive me, It’s just you’re…You’re so…So proper. You look like you’re rich!”
“That might be, because I am! I have anything that my heart desires.”
“Aye, and the one thing it doesn’t.” Jack muttered. Rolling my eyes, I looked past them at the black pearl, I wanted to sail her, she was just so breath taking. Jack grabbed my hand and took me a board; it was better than I had expected. He saved the captains courters for last. It wasn’t that big, there was a desk in the middle of the room, and on it laid a map. There were a few dressers pushed up against the wall and a bed in the corner, it looked cozy. I walked to the desk and looked at the map, I ran my finger along the blue parts, I wanted to go and sail, but Beckett wouldn’t let me. Jack grabbed my other hand and pulled me close, “Come ta sea with me and me crew.”
“I can’t” I whispered. “I can’t leave Will.”
Jack looked as if he just got an idea, “Bring the little mate with ye.”
